Your Visit to Clarity Eye Care & Surgery

Please arrive 15 minutes early to complete your new patient history and information forms. For your convenience, you can register online using our Patient Portal. This is a secure online portal. We also will need your insurance card, and driver’s license.  Your co-pays are due at the time of your visit.

At the time of your visit, you will have a complete eye examination. If you desire, you may have a refraction. This is a test to see if glasses would help you see better, or if you need to update your glasses. It is not usually covered by insurance companies. You are responsible for the refraction fee. Without the refraction, we do not know if a change in glasses would help you see better.

A complete examination includes a complete medical history, including medical problems, surgeries, medications (please bring a list) and allergies. Many medications and medical conditions can affect your eyes, so it is important for us to know about your medical issues. Your complete ocular history will also be taken, which will include any eye diseases, surgeries, and eye drop medications.

The examination will include a check of your vision, peripheral vision, pupil movement, eye movement, intraocular pressure and an extensive exam of your external and internal eye structures and health. We examine to look for evidence of  cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration, as well as other eye diseases.  In order to examine the internal structures of the eye thoroughly, we will need to dilate your eyes. This involves using eye drops to enlarge the pupil. The drops take 20 to 30 minutes to work, and the effect lasts 4-6 hours.  This will make your eyes light sensitive.  Some people experience blurred vision and feel uncomfortable driving after dilation. If so, please bring a driver with you.

At the end of your examination, Dr. Carter will discuss your eye health and conditions and make recommendations for any treatment or additional testing that may be necessary. She is happy to answer any questions you may have.

We look forward to meeting you!
