Conjunctivitis is the inflammation of the conjunctiva, the thin, clear tissue covering the white part of the eye and the inside of the eyelids. It can be caused by infections, allergies, or irritants and presents with symptoms like redness, itching, and discharge. Treatment dependent on the underlying cause and may or may not include topical antibiotics. “Pink eye” is a common generic term to refer to an eye infection, which is a type of conjunctivitis.
